Articles, activities for boomers & seniors
Most likely you know at least one person who selflessly gives his or her time and energy to help fellow citizens. They might volunteer at a shelter or a soup kitchen or in any one of the many ways in which we can help others. The remarkable thing about these people is that they do not do it for recognition.
They do not do it for money. They do it for no other reason than that they see a need and say "I am going to help". What satisfaction you get from helping others is an internal feeling. You feel good because you helped.
There are some people that go above and beyond in their efforts to help others. Although they do it not for recognition we should nonetheless let them know that we acknoweldge them and thank them for their genrosity of spirit. To that end there is the annual Lehigh County Aging and Adult Services Award for Unsung Heroes.
Lehigh County Aging and Adult Services is now accepting nominations for Unsung Heroes! To celebrate Older American's Month, the Lehigh County Office of Aging and Adult Services recognizes Lehigh County residents, 60 years of age or older, who have displayed exceptional generosity with their time and talent to enhance the lives of others and their community. The Unsung Hero finalists will be honored at a special awards ceremony on May 17, 2017 at 1:00 PM. To request a nomination form, please contact Lehigh County Aging and Adult Services at (610) 782-3034. Forms are also available at www.lehighcounty.org on the Aging and Adult Services home page. Nomination forms must be postmarked by March 10th.
