How To Deal With Balding As You Get Older (3 Tips!)

As Lehigh Valley men dip into their fifties, there’s a very high percentage that they’ll go bald. This may have started already—statistics say around 85% of men will have significantly thinner hair in their fifties, and many think it is one of the worst things about aging. Although a lot of people go bald, the prospect of your hair thinning and receding can be disappointing for any man, particularly when you’re at a stage in life when you feel a bit self-conscious because you’re noticing the signs of getting older.

With that in mind, it helps to know how to deal with balding as you get older. Different people may want or seek different approaches, so here are three tips to start you off.

Opt for a different haircut

Many men feel self-conscious when balding because their hairstyle makes them look older. You may have a receding hairline around your forehead, sometimes coupled with a bald patch at the back. Ironically, it’s worse when you only start receding because it feels like there’s so much more hair on your head, yet you look way older.

Some guys can combat this by getting a different haircut. There are loads of haircuts for balding men that do a fantastic job of disguising the fact that you’re losing your hair. The right cut can make you like what you see in the mirror and feel ten times younger. Investigate different styles until you find one that suits you. There may even be online options that allow you to virtually “try on” different styles.

Consider hair restoration options

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with looking into hair restoration options. Losing your hair can be a massive deal because it becomes part of your personality as you go through life. It’s particularly devastating when you make it through five decades before the hair follicles finally give in.

So, if you love having hair and it feels like a big part of who you are, then look into hair restoration treatments like transplants, or even a good wig. It’ll be 100% worth it if it makes you feel better.

Embrace the baldness

The third tip is to welcome the baldness and stop viewing it as a bad thing. Granted, this is easier said than done for a lot of men. You become emotionally attached to your hair, and (as noted before) it genuinely feels like part of your personality and who you are.

Regardless, it’s sometimes better to bite the bullet and shave it off. There’s no shame in being bald; ironically, it can make you look younger if you’re currently dealing with very patchy hair. It may also make you look better, so it’s worth giving it a go. If you don’t like it, your hair will still grow back, and you can attempt either of the other two options.

Baldness doesn’t get as much attention as other age-related problems, yet it can make a big dent in your self-esteem. You can tackle it in three ways, depending on your hair loss and your approach to the whole situation. Find whichever way works best for you and makes you regain your confidence!
